The Maidenhead Royals laid down an early season marker with an 16-4 victory over the defending champions, Windsor Knights. The Knights won both fixtures last year on the way to the title, so this early season clash was another key test if the Royals want to go one better than last year. The Royals got off to the better start, quickly getting the Knights out in the first inning without scoring before jumping into a 4-0 lead. That lead was short lived as the Knights responded, levelling the game up and then shutting the Royals out. The 2nd inning turned into the high point for the Champions as the Royals defence got on top and while their usually potent offense didn’t fully fire, it keep the scoring ticking over in the hosts favour. 4-4 quickly became 11-4 with the Royals adding 7 runs over the 3rd and 4th inning. The 5th was scoreless between both teams, before the Royals finally put the game to bed in the 6th with 5 more unanswered runs. This was an excellent win for the Royals in what was a tight game between the top 2 from last year. It means the Royals were top of the league going into their bye week.

Rascals v  BA Flyers

May 23rd, 7pm

Rascals suffer the Blues Too

The Rascals travelled to the Blue Jays looking for their first win of the season. The Blue Jays also looking for their first win started the stronger, holding the Rascals to 1 run in the first 3 innings, while scoring 5. The game looked to have turned in the 4th, a huge rally by the Rascals overturned a 5-1 deficit to a 7-5 lead. Defensive errors then cost the visitors as they conceded 4 in the 4th and 3 in the 5th to fall 12-7 behind. The deficit was too big for the Rascals on this occasion, while they managed to score 4 more, the hosts added 6 to run out 18-11 winners and leave the Rascals bottom of the table after 3 rounds.
